Field Help module

The Field Help module contains descriptions of all fields in all Vitalware modules. Suitably authorized users are able to edit field descriptions so that they describe the specific use of the field by an institution. See How to edit Field Level Help for details.

In addition, the Field Help module can display:

  • The back-end name of the module in which the field displays (required when creating reports, List Views and sorts, e.g. NamPartyType)
  • Level number if a field is linked in a Lookup List hierarchy
  • Type of field, e.g. Text
  • Kind of field, e.g. dkAtom
  • Groups which can access this field
  • A link to a web page or even a page within the Vitalware Help (using the Link: (Related Information) field)

Note: As every institution is able to customize Vitalware to suit its requirements, there are many different versions of Vitalware. Even where institutions have the same modules, the tabs included in each instance of the module may be different; and even where institutions have tabs with the same name, the fields on those tabs may be different. For that reason this section only provides a general description of modules, tabs and fields.

Tab Description

Column Info

Holds back-end details for the field, including:

  • Name of the module in which the field displays.
  • Back-end name of the field (Column: (Column Details)).
  • The field's Column type, e.g. Text, Integer.
  • The field's Column kind, e.g. Atom (single value), Table.
  • The Lookup list parent for the field, i.e. the field above this field in a Lookup List hierarchy.
  • The field's Lookup list level, i.e. the level of this field in a Lookup List hierarchy, e.g. level 5 in a hierarchy of 20.
  • Reference column name (Column: (Reference Details), i.e. the name of a column that is referenced by this field, e.g. SummaryData.
  • The name of the database (Module: (Reference Details)) that is referenced by this field, e.g. eparties.
  • The field name used when referencing an attachment field, (Link: (Reference Details), e.g. AssAssociationRef_tab.

    Related Information

    Used to specify one or more links to further information. The link(s) display under the See Also heading in the Field Help dialog box for the field. Links can be to a web site or even to a page in the Vitalware Help:
